How to configure your SpamAssassin?

SpamAssassin is an Apache-based program that was developed in 2001.The main duty of SpamAssassin is to test the email that you receive and give you a score that indicates whether it is spam or not.

In other words, it has a complex algorithm for email spam filtering that analyzes the email and detects if it is spam or not.

The analysis falls under several factors like subject line, IP, email headers, authentication, character set, and message encoding.

Apart from this, it also uses Bayesian filtering, blacklists, online databases, DNS, and fuzzy checksum techniques to check whether the email is spam or not.

The steps are mentioned below to configure your SpamAssassin:
  • Login to your cPanel account.
  • Click the spam filter under the email section.
  • Turn on the spam filters to Process New Emails and mark them as “Spam” at the top of the page.
  • Once it is successfully active, a success message will pop up in the right-hand corner.
  • When you receive emails, messages with a score of 5 (the default score) will be marked as spam.
  • Once it identifies an email as spam, the word “SPAM” will appear in the subject field of the email message.
