Confidential Server: FAQs

What is AMD SEV Confidential Computing?

AMD SEV is a hardware-based confidential computing feature that protects your VM’s memory. This encryption method denies access to the server, even to the host with physical access. Only the user with the key can access the server.

How does confidential computing differ from standard VPS hosting?

Standard VPS hosting usually uses software-based isolation, where the memory and data can be accessed by the hypervisor or host OS. But in confidential computing, servers are protected by hardware-based encryption built into the CPU. This restricts unauthorized access to the server, including from hosts.

Is the disk also encrypted?

Yes. The data is encrypted by AES-256 disk encryption by default. This keeps your data secure in memory and at rest without requiring manual setup. Freeze mode data is also encrypted using the same method.

What performance can I expect?

AMD EPYC-powered infrastructure gives high computational efficiency, coupled with NVMe’s high operating speed, approximately 90K read IOPS, and 38K write IOPS. Additionally, the 10 Gigabit Ethernet networking infrastructure minimizes bottlenecks and latency without oversubscription.

What server locations are available, and what compliance certifications do you offer?

Our servers are located in Switzerland and are ISO 27001-certified. We offer compliance with Swiss data protection laws and other frameworks, such as GDPR and PCI DSS.

Do you support migration from other platforms?

Yes, we provide complete migration assistance from our technical support. We help you migrate your data from existing VPS and dedicated servers with a seamless workflow. We enable a complete migration with negligible downtime.

What is included in the pricing?

The price comprehensively covers AMD SEV encryption by default, storage encryption, and DDoS protection that prevents NTP, DNS, UDP, Memcached, TCP SYN, and TCP ACK flood attacks. In addition, you get 10 GbE connectivity, backup automation, and round-the-clock monitoring, and 99.99% uptime in the service level agreement. You get all these included in the pricing with no hidden charges.

Are there any constraints?

Currently, nested virtualization and GPU passthrough are not supported due to SEV and hypervisor restrictions. These remain the only limitations in the AMD SEV confidential computing. Otherwise, our resources offered are subject to the fair use policy. If you want a high-performance server or have large-scale workloads, please contact our support team to choose the right server.
